Metadata Explorer

Metadata Explorer window reads metadata automatically from existing ODBC data sources allowing users to browse metadata and preview metadata definitions. The built-in Metadata Search Engine finds metadata objects across databases in real-time when typing in the search field.

Open Metadata Explorer

You display the Metadata Explorer window by clicking Metadata Explorer on the VIEW menu.

View Metadata

Select the Connection and click button Connect in Connection Explorer window. You can also double-click on the Connection to perform the same action.

The metadata structure appears in Metadata Explorer window. Depending on the amount of database objects or speed of the network connection, it can take some seconds to load the data objects.

Sort Metadata

Select button Categorized to sort metadata by type in the Metadata Explorer.

Select button Alphabetic to sort metadata in alphabetic order in the Metadata Explorer.

Search Metadata

Write the name of the data object into the search field. The results are shown when you begin typing. Search results are showing matching tables, views and columns. The search term is underlined to find the desired object easier.

Preview Metadata

Select the data object or field for which you want to display the metadata definition. The metadata definition is shown in the preview area.

Create Schema Definition

Select the data object or field for which you want to create a schema definition. Select button Create Schema.

This creates a new schema from the metadata explorer definition in the main window.

Create Data Profile

Select the data object or field for which you want to create a data profile. Select button Create Profile.

This creates a new data profile from the metadata explorer definition in the main window.
